Simply The Best

No fuss. No packdrill.

Quite simply - Which was the best gardening blog post you've read in the last year?

And why?

Was it Informative? Entertaining? Moving? Clever? Wise? Funny (deliberate or otherwise)?

Or perhaps you even enjoyed it just because it was really crap.

  2. But which specific post?

Or do you mean each and every one?

  3. Arabella Sock's Unkindness of Ravens Series

  4. I'd have to go for Arabella's Sock original take on the new sport of slating GW, particularly for its homage to the every wonderful 'Apprentice' - (http://sea-of-immeasurable-gravy.blogspot.com/2009/04/gardeners-world-behind-scenes-special.html)

Also, James A-S's Blogging from Blackpitts. I could pick almost any post but would probably go for The Duke of Plaza Toro Had Muddy Sippers (http://web.me.com/blackpittsgarden/Site_2/Blog/Entries/2009/3/3_The_Duke_of_Plaza_Toro_Had_Muddy_slippers.html) for its imbuing of a hole with human feelings and its ability to bring in Angela Lansbury and talking teacups to a horticultural situation.

Finally the Inelegant Gardener for the best description ever given to a plant (http://inelegantgardener.blogspot.com/2009/03/narcissus-cyclamineus.html)

  5. i want to nominate Simon's allotment for two posts: the recent 'Sweet talking guy' about Roundup and Monsanto, and 'Debunking the raised bed myth' about, er...raised beds. i like a bit of politics with my gardening and Simon provides it. Both these posts have made me question things i had taken for granted, and i think that's a great quality in a blog post.

  6. Thank you for the vote LGF - an award in itself to make it onto a nominee list.

For my part, it would have to be Arabella Sock's Mutt and Jeff series, if we are allowed to vote for a related series of posts.

  7. Tee hee - it is lovely to be nominated but I don't mind if I don't win because I will buy myself an enormous piece of chocolate cake anyway. I might just do that now actually..

What I meant to say was I'm with Lia for Simon's Allotment about Roundup and Monsantao. I had no idea..

  9. For me it's Blackpitts' Desert Island Plants post because it made me think about it for days afterwards AND I still have arguments with myself even now about the final choices I made for mine.
